Manuscripts and Rare Books Collection

The Foundation’s Rare Historical Documents Collection, focusing on the history of Cyprus, includes manuscripts and printed books, dated from the 16th to the 20th century.

The oldest manuscripts in the Collection are unique examples of correspondence between Venetian merchants in relation to goods that passed through the port of Famagusta and the Eastern Mediterranean region. These documents date from 1406 to 1511.

The printed publications, mainly palaeotypes, include travel, historical and geographical publications and rare information sheets referring to the War of Cyprus (157-1571) and dating from the 16th to the 20th century. Also included is a series of pamphlets published during the British rule (1878-1960) referring to the Anglo-Turkish Treaty of 1879.

The Foundation's aim is to translate and critically edit manuscripts and old books of historical importance.

Στόχος του Ιδρύματος είναι η μετάφραση και η κριτική έκδοση των χειρογράφων και παλιών βιβλίων με ιδιαίτερη ιστορική σημασία.
