The Archaeological Collection of George and Nefeli Giabra Pierides, donated by Clio and Solon Triantafyllides
In 1999 Solon Triantafyllides, Chairman of the Bank of Cyprus Group and his wife Clio donated to the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation the collection of Cypriot Antiquities that belonged to her parents, George and Nefeli Giabra Pierides.
Further to the donation agreement the Cultural Foundation was committed in presenting the collection in a museum and in parallel to develop related research and educational programmes.
In 2002 the Αrchaeological Museum of the George of Nefeli Giabra Pierides Collection (donated by Solon and Clio Triantafyllides) was inaugurated in the premises of the Cultural Foundation.
The Collection which numbers more than six hundred objects covers a wide range of the archaeology of Cyprus, from the Early Bronze Age (2500 BC) to the Middle Ages (16th century). It includes unique samples of Mycenaean pottery, representative samples of pottery from the Geometric, Archaic, Classic, Roman and Medieval periods, terracotta figurines , an important collection of stone sculptures as well as seals, jewellery, coins and bronze objects.
The Cultural Foundation published a scientific catalogue of the collection, edited by Dr Vassos Karageorghis.
