The aims of the Cultural Foundation that are endowed with a Cyprological interest are met by placing particular importance on the research of primary and other sources in the fields of Archaeology, History, Art and Literature. The Collections of the Cultural Foundation provide the basic source for the development of such programmes which are eventually published by the Cultural Foundation.

Travel literature is a rich and popular genre and a valuable source of information for
various disciplines. This project seeks to approach this topic through the study of the
case of Cyprus. The chronological scope covers the period between the 15th (invention
of printing) to the 21st century.The Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation has secured a
contract for a new research project titled “Re-inventing age-old Travelling Paths of the
Levant in the Digital Era: the example of Cyprus” (ReTraPath). The project secured
funding after a call for proposals as part of the “Excellence Hubs” programme of the
“RESTART 2016-2020” programme of the Institute of Research and Innovation.

The Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation has been awarded a contract to carry out
postdoctoral research on “Aspects of multiconfessionalism and human geography in early modern Cyprus from the Venetians to the Ottomans (CyChrist).” The project
secured funding following a call for tenders in the “Didaktor” (Post-Doctoral
Researchers) programme, part of the “RESTART 2016-2020” programmes of the
Research Promotion Foundation. With this success, the Cultural Foundation leads the
way in research excellence as a recognized research institute in its own right. The
project is led by Dr Ioanna Hadjicostis, director of the Cultural Foundation, assisted by
the young research assistant Dr Chrysovalanti Kyriacou. It will delve into uncharted
territory: the coexistence of various Christian confessions in Cyprus between 1560 and
1670 (multi-confessionalism).

The project entitled “InArt2DiverCity: Introducing Cultural Diversity of European Cities
to Youth” was launched on 15th September 2018 and will be concluded on 14th
September 2020. InART2DiverCityproject aims to develop new and effective
approaches, methods and materials to introduce /reinforce European Cultural
Heritage and Intercultural learning, with the view to enhance the skills and
employability of young adults (age group 18-30) in the creative sectors as well as the
professional skills of trainers.
