The Development of the Cypriot Economy
From the Prehistoric Period to the Present Day

The volume contains the papers contributed by sixteen scholars from Cyprus, Greece, Europe, Australia, the USA and Israel, who participated in the International Symposium with the same title organised jointly by the University of Cyprus (Archaeological Research Unit and Department of Economics) and the Bank of Cyprus in April 1995 on the topic “The development of the Cypriot economy from the Prehistoric period to the present day”. Papers presented discuss various aspects and phases of Cypriot economy, covering an extremely wide chronological range of approximately eight millenniums, from the Neolithic period to the present day. Subjects presented include: the agrarian economy in prehistoric times, the importance of bronze for the economic development of the island from the Late Bronze Age to the Classical period, the importance of timber, oil and sugar for Cypriot exports, Cypriot economy during British rule, etc.
