In Quest of Alexander the Great. 2300 Years Later

The author embarks on a contemporary itinerary by means of photography in those countries of the East which keep alive the memory of Alexander the Great. Apart from historical events (battles, founding of cities, crossing of rivers, diplomatic arrangements, etc.), attention is placed on the archaeological sites which have survived down to the present, as well as finds in smaller and larger museums, such as those of New Delhi, Calcutta, Tashkent, Bukhara, Islamabad, Kabul, Baghdad, and, naturally, Alexandria, Cairo, Beirut, and Constantinople. There is also an extensive account of the myth which supplied the folk muse with material in the countries through which Alexander passed, justifying the title of “the absolute conqueror”.
