Tα Δημοτικά Τραγούδια και οι Λαϊκοί Χοροί της Kύπρου [Popular Songs and Dances of Cyprus]

In his extensive preface, G. K. Ioannides traces the development of the art of dancing from the antiquity to the seventeenth century, placing special emphasis on the characteristics of Cypriot popular dances. The book is a revised and augmented edition of Georgios A. Averof’s 1978 publication entitled Cypriot Popular Dances. It includes the corpus of popular songs and dances of Cyprus that the author learned from his father, professional popular violinist Alexander Georgiades. It is a valuable guide for both musicologists and students of Cypriot demotic music, as well as for popular musicians who keep the island’s musical tradition alive.
