In this book of memorabilia, information on the life and work of the two great Cypriot poets, who left an indelible mark on the literary life of the island from the end of the 19th century through to the Interwar Period, is supplemented through the presentation of photographic material, documents and their personal belongings. In his preface, Andreas Christophides notes that Michaelides and Lipertis unleashed their talent in poetry when they abandoned attempts at using the katharevousa [purifying language] and returned to the Cypriot idiom. The publication was launched to coincide with the exhibition of the poets’ memorabilia, organised by the Educational Department and the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation in commemoration of seventy years from the death of Michaelides and fifty years from the death of Lipertis.
