The Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation's series of events Moments at the Museum is inaugurated this year with the Interactive Audio-visual Exhibition ‘Memory Returns’ Voices of Asia Minor in Cyprus, 100 years later, where on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Asia Minor Catastrophe, the research group People of Cyprus presents the voices of the island's Asia Minor community.

The exhibition will take place at the George and Nefeli Giabra Pierides Museum at the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation from 13 November to 8 December 2022, creating the basis for a special journey of knowledge and interaction.

Memories and feelings of second and third generation refugees from Asia Minor who grew up on the stories of their own people, come to the surface and are presented for the first time in the form of photographs and oral testimonies. The exhibition aims to introduce visitors to an important part of Cypriot history through the magical world of oral history and photography.

Vvisitors will have the opportunity to see photographic portraits of Asia Minor families along with heirlooms of special symbolism, originating from the homeland of Asia Minor and at the same time listen to their oral testimony by means of headphones available in the venue or by using a QR code, thus taking history back home with them.

The Exhibition is an initiative of the People of Cyprus group, curated by historian Iliana Koulafeti and journalist Christos Michalaros. They will be joined by musician Veronika Aloneftou, who will accompany the opening, through the sounds of her santoor, opening a window to our sensual Orient.
