04 November - 04 November 2021

The launch will take place at the Events Hall of the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation on 4 November 2021, at 19:30. Poet Kyriakos Charalambides, member of the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts, will present the book.

The book makes a significant contribution to the preservation of the historical memory of the Turkish-occupied city of Kyrenia as it contains authentic testimonies by several Kyrenians and others inhabiting the city, drawn from the Oral Tradition Archive of the Cyprus Research Centre. Precious memories, an abundance of lived experiences and a wealth of descriptions revive an entire world, the world of Kyrenia, with its everyday habits, time-honoured values and perceptions, its social institutions, customs and traditions, its national struggles. The memories relayed in the book shed light on several aspects of Kyrenia’s local society, putting together the bigger picture of the Kyrenians’ lives and activities from the early 20th c. until the first half of 1974 in a way that brings out the 3000-year-old history of the city and its rich Greek tradition, now disfigured under the boot of Turkish conquerors.

The book has received funding by the Anastasios G. Leventis Foundation and the Municipality of Kyrenia.

The launch event is placed under the aegis of the Cyprus Research Centre.
